Katabi Gears up for Kabaka's Coronation Anniversary

There is excitement in Entebbe Municipality and Katabi town council ahead of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s 26th Coronation anniversary celebrations. 

Nkumba University will host the main celebrations on July 31st, 2019 at its main campus in Katabi town council. 

Preparations for the event are in top gear. Buganda’s Cultural Affairs Minister, Godfrey Kyewalabye Male, says they have already constructed the palace where the Kabaka will stay during the celebrations.

He also notes that as part of the activities, they have upgraded several cultural sites, which also act as tourism sites in Wakiso.

Buganda’s Attorney General, Christopher Bwanika, who chairs the Organizing committee, says they have organised several activities prior to the coronation anniversary celebrations.

He says they intend to run including a medical camp at Katabi Sub county headquarters where they offer free medical services to residents.     

Bwanika also notes that Kabaka Mutebi will oversee the reopening of the Kyankolokolo Ngongolo Channel that connects Sisa Sub County to Katabi town council on Lake Victoria. 

The channel was launched by Kabaka Mutebi three years ago. However, it was never utilized by business people traveling between Katabi town council and Sisa Sub County despite the short distance.

   

Wakiso District chairperson, Matia Lwanga Bwanika says the District is earmarking resources that will be used to operationalize and rehabilitate the route.

The Kingdom has so far invited up 10,000 guests. Several residents in Katabi town council Uganda Radio Network has spoken too are excited about the event, saying it will create for them several opportunities. 

The residents also claim, the Kabaka's visit will leave the town council and Busiro County blessed.

Kabaka Mutebi ascended to the throne on July 31, 1993 following negotiations between the Central government and Mengo.  

He was installed at Naggalabi in Buddo in Busiro County, which host several cultural sites.  

They include among others Wamala tombs and Lunnyo Palace, Entebbe za Mugula found close to Entebbe airport run way 12/30 among others. 

The county is also home to Kabaka Mutebi’s palace in Banda in Kira Municipality.
