Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has threatened to relocate the city abattoir should management fail to improve its sanitation.
Dr. James Semuwemba, the KCCA Director for Public Health and Environment issued the warning while inspecting the city abattoir along Port Bell road this afternoon.
Semuwemba notes that the city abattoir discharges raw blood and dung into the nearby drainage, which ends up in Nakivubo channel.

He explained that despite issuing various notes to the management of city abattoir to improve on sanitation and treat waste, nothing has changed.
“The abattoir is not supposed to be in the city because of the limited land that cannot allow them to establish a center to treat the waste,â€Semuwemba added. Peter Kauju, the KCCA spokesperson said there is a very big problem at the abattoir.

However, Wilberforce Mutesasira, the Spokesperson City Abattoir says it is unfair for KCCA to consider relocating them since the facility has been operating in the area for several years.
