Headquarters in Gulu City are investigating the death of a
Kenyan trucker in Elegu Township, at the Uganda – South Sudan
border.
Hersi Abdiriza, 45, was found dead in his guest
house room in Lorikwor West Ward, Elegu Town Council in Amuru District around 6:48 am on Tuesday.
His compatriot Osuman Ibrahim reported the death to the police.
In his statement to police, Osuman, a
businessman in Elegu, said the deceased was en route to the South Sudan capital, Juba to deliver cargo.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa Police Public
Relations Officer told URN that preliminary information reveals that the deceased was not feeling well upon his arrival
in Elegu on September
13, 2021 since he was on medication prescribed from Kenya.
Mudong explained that they are investigating a
case of sudden death vide Elegu CRB 131/2021.
He disclosed that another driver
was hired to drive the deceased’s truck to Juba to deliver goods, adding that
relevant statements have already been recorded to aid investigations.
The
deceased’s body has since been evacuated to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for post-mortem pending
handover to the relatives for burial as inquiries continue.
