Students of Kilembe Senior Secondary School in Kasese municipality on Thursday staged a demonstration accusing the teachers of absenteeism.

The students locked their classes and marched to the office of the Resident District Commissioner protesting teacher absenteeism.

Some of the students who spoke on condition of anonymity said the teachers have been threatening to stop teaching due to delayed payments.

Ernest Balizora the school head prefect says that the teachers have abandoned their responsibilities and it could affect the performance of the students.

According to Baliroza, the headteacher is rarely at the school and doesn’t have time to listen to students’ concerns. He says that the headteacher is critical to the performance of their school, adding that a poor performing headteacher affects the performance of the school.

Marion Katuhaise, a S.5 student says that they have inadequate time to complete their level and yet they are not being attended to by the teachers.

She also says they are receiving poor services from non-teaching staff with many accusing the administration of non-payment of their salaries.

Later the RDC Lt. Joe Walusimbi held a meeting with both students and other stakeholders to resolve the impulse.
