Kisoro Man Gets Life Sentence For Brutal Family Murders

In his judgment, Justice Samuel Emokor noted that Ndikumukiza pleaded guilty to the charges and described him as an evil individual who should not be granted the privilege of enjoying life outside prison.
High Court in Kisoro district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to the murder of four of his family members.

Gerald Ndikumukiza, a resident of Kageyo village in Busengo Parish, Nyarubuye Sub County, used a machete to brutally kill his 80-year-old father, Deogratious Sebitama, his 75-year-old mother, Bonikonsira Nyiraguhirwa, his 26-year-old sister-in-law, Maliserina Mujawimana, and his 20-year-old wife, Joan Nyiramahoro. He also injured his 8-year-old son, Edward Irakiza.

The incident occurred on September 24, 2020, around 10:30 PM in Kageyo village. During the hearing, the prosecution revealed that Ndikumukiza began by killing his wife, Nyiramahoro, and then proceeded to attack the other family members while they were asleep.

At the time of the incident, Ndikumukiza had just returned from his work as a casual laborer in Kyazanga, Lwengo district. In his judgment, Justice Samuel Emokor noted that Ndikumukiza pleaded guilty to the charges and described him as an evil individual who should not be granted the privilege of enjoying life outside prison.

Emokor emphasized that the sentence of life imprisonment would serve as a reminder to the public that murder is intolerable under Ugandan laws.
