Kiyingi, Kadaga Rant Over Case

The Kamuli Magistrates Court was on Monday a scene of action after StateMinister Asuman Kiyingi, described the defamation case against her sister as bogus.

 

The speaker of parliament, Rebbeca Kadaga, sued Kiyingi’s sister, Madina Kiyingi accusing her of defamation.

 

The accusations stem from an article in the Red Pepper tabloid titled; “A top Busoga politician in money scandal”. Madina Kiyingi allegedly photocopied and distributed copies of the article published on June 21st 2011.

 

But just as the case was scheduled to be heard, Kadaga allegedly sought the adjournment, a move that angered Minister Kiyingi.

 

The visibly irritated Kiyingi arrived at court only to be told that the case has been adjourned. He said he skipped an appointment with the President to attend the proceedings. He admitted that the sister is psychological tormented by the case.

 

The minister said that the defamation case against his sister cannot be sustained, bogus and

should be thrown out as it is wastage of government funds.

But Kadaga rubbished Kiyingi’s utterances as unfortunate ranting. She also defended her actions saying she had crucial state duties in Parliament to attend to on behalf of the people of Uganda.
