Dr Crispus Kiyonga,  the former Ambassador of Uganda to China has said the NRM party will take back all the positions it lost to the Forum for Democratic Change in the 2016 elections.

The Forum for Democratic Change -FDC party won all parliamentary seats in Kasese district edging senior NRM stalwarts like Kiyonga. He says that at the end of June he completed his three-year tour of duty in China and thought he should come back to reclaim the position he lost to Godfrey Atkins Katusabe

He points to a series of misunderstandings with FDC and the opposition in general, as an opportunity for NRM to reclaim its position in the district.  Kiyonga was speaking at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters where he had returned his nomination papers for the Bukonzo West Parliamentary seat.

“In 2016, there was some confusion and people voted for wrong leadership in the district. Now is our duty we the revolutionaries to go and sweep them out and we take back the leadership,” Kiyonga said.

Cue out…votes in Kasese.”//

Currently, the NRM is in the process of holding party primaries to identify flagbearers for the various political positions ahead of the 2021 elections.

“As we begin this electoral cycle, the immediate task we face now as NRM is to ensure we strengthen the fight against COVID-19. second, we have to defeat decisively poverty and increase opportunities for people to become more prosperous,” Kiyonga said.

He added that it’s only the NRM that can pull off this because in the four years that they have not been in power in Kasese, there has been a slowdown in social and economic transformation of the people.

Kasese district has six constituencies all of them represented by FDC members. Winnie Kiiza is the woman representative, Atkins Katushabe represents Bukonzo West, Robert Centenary Franco represents Kasese municipality, Mbaju Jackson represents Busongora south, Nzoghu William represents Busongora north and Muhindo Harold represents Bukonzo East.
