Professor Eli Katunguka the vice-chancellor of the university while speaking to journalists at a head of the 20th graduation ceremony on Wednesday said that going forward the university is to limit the number of bachelor’s degrees and focus on master's and Ph.D. to boost research and also influence policies in the country.
Kyambogo University is mooting to increase the intake of Master's and
PhD programs to enhance research.
Professor Eli Katunguka the Vice-Chancellor while speaking to journalists ahead of the 20th
graduation ceremony on Wednesday said that the university plans to limit the number of Bachelor Degrees.
Professor Katunguka also said that the research done by
the master's and PhD students can also be commercialized for the benefit of the
university.
8 PhD students will be graduating at this year’s
graduation ceremony scheduled from the 10th to 13th of December
compared to only 2 that graduated last year.
Seven of the PhD students come
from the school of education with a degree in philosophy with education and 1
from the faculty of science with a doctor of philosophy in sports science.

This year's graduation ceremony will see 11,721 students
graduate with 5,704 males and 6,017 females.
Katunguka also said that graduates will not be able to receive
their transcripts and certificates immediately after graduation but after one
week. He said that this is meant to give the academic registrar adequate time to avoid mistakes on the transcripts.
Jonathan Musinguzi, the Regional Police commander of Kampala
Metropolitan East advised the graduands and other guests to carry light luggage for security purposes.
Israel Wambesyo, the Regional traffic officer urged members
of the public to adhere to traffic guidelines. He urged motorists to use alternative routes to access their
destinations as some of the roads leading to the university will only be
accessible to vehicles with stickers.
