Kyamuswa health sub district in Kalangala has received its first motor vehicle ambulance thanks to area leaders led by the Woman MP, Carol Nanyondo.

The ambulance was delivered by canoe to Bukasa Island in Kyamuswa sub country where the main health facility is located on Wednesday afternoon.

The Toyota Noah vehicle registration number UBB 761Q will operate the Lwanabatya–Nakibanga and Kisaba route picking patients from different islands for treatment at Kyamuswa Health Center IV.

The vehicle was purchased with money from leader’s savings.

Ronald Mukasa Mawagi, the Kyamuswa Health Center IV in charge asks government to consider providing them several water boat ambulances to facilitate the safe movement of patients from one island to another for treatment.

In September this year, the United States Government through the President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief donated a boat ambulance to the Island District to help in health related emergencies.

The boat however serves a handful of communities in Bujumba health sub district leaving the people in distant islands without transport.

Willy Lugoloobi, the Kalangala District Chairperson, says they are waiting for the Health Ministry to disburse 5 fiber boat ambulances that they were promised to improve health service delivery.
