Lamwo Health Worker Shot In Robbery

A health worker in Kitgum district is being treated at St. Joseph's hospital after he sustained injuries when gunmen opened fire on Friday night during a suspected robbery.

ASP Jackson Baryampika, the Kitgum district police commander identified the injured as Francis Okumu, a health worker attached to Padibe Health Center IV in Lamwo district.

He says the suspected thugs fired two shots, one through Okumu's upper left leg and another through the ceiling board of his house located in Mon Bunyu ward, Alango West village in Kitgum Municipality.

The two men wielding an AK47 sub machine gun reportedly with head masks then made off with unspecified sum of cash.

ASP Kenneth Agaba, a police detective says the suspected robbers opened fire after Okumu challenged them.

Maxwell Ochen, the Alango West village chairperson says few days before the incident, thieves failed to break into Okumu's shop.

The incident is the second gun crime in Kitgum district this year. Earlier, a businessman was also injured in Ocet Toke Village in Layamo Sub County.
