A group of Lango clan heads has petitioned Lira High Court seeking the removal of the Paramount Chief, Yosam Odur. Through their lawyers, Oryem and Company advocate, the clan heads loyal to Dr. Eng. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, the head of the parallel Lango Cultural Institution want high court to declare that Odur is illegally in office.

They also want court to prohibit Odur from presenting himself as the leader of the Lango tribal group. The Lira High Court Deputy Registrar, Rosemary Abireebe has set January 16th, 2019 to deliver her ruling on the application.

The applicant's lawyer, Alfred Okello Oryem, says they also want court to dissolve Odur's cabinet. He says the application stems from their main civil suit number 019 of 217 in which, Lira High Court declared Dr. Okune's election as legal and legitimate.

Retired Colonel Tony Otoa, the head of Abwor clan and adviser to Dr. Okune, says they also want court to award them the costs of the suite emanating from the previous cases, adding that they are looking at Shillings 700million.

Dr. Richard Nam, the Prime Minister of Lango Cultural Foundation under Odur, says part of the issues in the new application, were trashed during the previous court hearings.

He also dismissed the request by the applicants to dissolve Odur's cabinet and stop him from presenting himself as the leader of Lango as irrelevant, saying the respondent is still the legitimate Lango Cultural leader.

The conflict at Lango Cultural Institution dates back to 2012 when a section of clan heads opposed the decision by Odur's administration to invite President, Yoweri Museveni to preside over the closure of Lango Conference held at Uganda Technical College in Lira.

Since then, a number of rival Paramount Chiefs including Benjamin Okii (Head of Okii-Bura clan), Charles Olet (leader of OKii-Ogwangkoltum) and Dr. Okune (former leader of Lango in Diasporas).
