The Chairman of the Uganda Kings and
Cultural Leaders Forum, the cultural leader of Buruuli, Isabarongo Mwatansozi Mwogezi, has urged the Lango community to prioritize the preservation
and promotion of their cultural heritage.
In a maiden visit to Lango
Cultural Institution, Isabaruuli Mwogezi expressed concern
over the eroding culture of Lango, emphasizing the need to resist excessive
foreign influence and protect traditional practices.
He noted that cultural preservation, economic progress, and political engagement are key
pillars for development, which Lango must embrace.

He also warned against mushrooming religious
denominations, which he says are leading people away from developmental
activities.

However, the major highlight of the
visit was to sign a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Tekwaro
Lango (Lango Cultural Institution) and the Global Peace Foundation, focusing on
strengthening families and fostering national unity.

“I'm urging all Lango to participate
in political positions because these days, every seat has to be filled with a political push. So I pray to all Lango to join any kind of sector, whereby
if you are chosen to be a chairman of something, accept.”
Milton Kambula, the President of Global Peace Foundation, argued
that without a strong family connection, preserving and protecting cultural
norms and practices becomes a challenge.
“Divided houses are easy to conquer. So right now we are saying no, we must unite all our kingdoms and
our kings must unite towards rebuilding Uganda, towards the future, a peaceful, prosperous Uganda.” He said.

Adding that “The kings must have the
space to play a role so that political leaders and the government and the
religious leaders, joining with the cultural leaders, it will be possible to
build an enabling environment for the economy.”
Eng Moses Michael Odongo
Okune, the Paramount Chief of Lango Cultural Institution, having acknowledged
the cultural, political, and religious divides currently happening in Lango, called
on the cultural leadership to join forces in addressing the problem.
