LCI and II Chairpersons in Busia Municipality want the government
to install CCTV security cameras to help fight increased crime in the area.
The demand follows last month’s attempted murder of the Busia
district engineer Sylvester Egesa who was attacked at his home in Sibarar.
In the same month, a businessman was robbed 5 million shillings by armed thugs
at Mawero market. Days later, Solo police station was attacked by unknown assailants
who stole an AK47 in Busia town.
Twaha Ogoola, the LCI chairperson Madibira B village says that despite the
presence of street lights, there is still need to install security cameras around

Godfrey Beneza, LCI chairperson Nangwe-Mugungu village says that criminals
terrorize residents in the town and then cross to neighbouring Kenya through

According to George Barasa, the Nangwe LCI Chairperson, the major
spots the criminals target are Busia Taxi park, Customs road, Nangwe shops
market, Tororo road street, Jinja high way, Majanji road, among others.

Paul Kalikwan, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner asked the local
leaders to have collective efforts in ensuring security.

Elepot Eriya the Busia District Police Commander says the
incidents of gun robbery started last month, police launched investigations to
track the robbers.
