Lightening Injures Four Children in Agago

Bowman John Opio, a teacher at Atocon primary school told Uganda Radio Network in an interview that the children were asleep in a grass thatched hut when the incident happened.
Four children have been injured after they were struck by lightning in Agago district.

The incident happened at about 10 pm Thursday during a heavy downpour in Kuywe Sub County. The injured have been identified as Patience Awinyo Patients 14, Vicky Akidi 9, Jenifer Adong 10 and Simon Denis Odong 10 all are resident of Atocon village.

Bowman John Opio, a teacher at Atocon Primary School says that the children were sleeping in a grass-thatched hut when lightening struck.

Opio notes that he found the children were all unconscious when he rushed to their hut shortly after the lightning strike. He says they were rushed to Dr Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo in Kalongo Town council as they are admitted and receiving medical treatment.

According to the LCIII Chairperson Kuywe sub-county George William Ocen, the lightning strike also caused a crack on the grass-thatched hut wall.

Early this month, one person was killed and five others sustained injuries after they were struck by lightning in Corner village in Loliya Parish in Orom Sub County in Kitgum district.
