Lightning has killed a 35-year-man and
critically injured one in Hoima.
The deceased has been identified as Ari
Wanichan 35, while the injured is 12-year-old girl only identified as Monday. They are residents of Ndaragi village in Ndaragi
Parish, Kisukuma sub county.
The incident happened on Saturday at around 2 p.m.
during a heavy downpour.
Geofrey Omirambe, a neighbor told Uganda Radio Network
(URN) in an interview that, the two were inside their house
during the heavy downpour when the lighting struck.
He says, they heard the two screaming for help
and rushed only to find Wanichan lying dead.
They immediately mobilized and rushed Monday to Hoima regional referral
hospital where she is currently admitted.
John Kwemara, the area LCV Councilor has regretted the incident stating that it is the first of its kind in his area.
In September 2007, lightning struck dead seven pupils
of Bujogo primary school in Bugambe sub county in Kikuube district critically
injuring seventeen others.
In September 2017, lightning struck Buhanika Sub County and
injured 16 pupils of Kifumura Primary School.
In October 2017, lightning struck dead four pupils of St
Prisca Primary school located in Nyarugabu cell, Kiduuma ward in Hoima west
division in Hoima city.
