Lightning Strikes In Kisoro, Two Dead

Flora Bwimana in her 70s a resident of Matembe village and Twizere Sibomana a resident of Rukopfe village in Chibumba parish, Murora sub county were struck dead at around 07:00M.
Two people were on Friday evening struck dead by lightning in Kisoro district. 

Flora Bwimana in her 70s, a resident of Matembe village and Twizere Sibomana, a resident of Rukopfe village in Chibumba parish, Murora sub county were struck dead at around 7am. 

Jackson Sebakunzi, Rukopfe Village LC1 Chairman says that Twizere and Bwimana were returning home from the garden during a downpour. In the process, Sebakunzi says they were struck by lightning and died instantly. 

Later traditional cleansing was carried out before the bodies were taken away by their families. Hilly districts of western Uganda are prone to lightning incidents. 

On January 15, lightning struck dead six cows and 12 sheep belonging to Fred Ishungisa, also known as Rukara, a farmer from Ntungamo village in Katenga parish, Kaharo sub-county, Kabale district.

Ishungisa was at around 6:30pm grazing the animals at Kinyinya Hill, located in the same village, during a drizzle when he witnessed lightning striking the animals. Lightning also struck four children of the same family in Sheema district place on January 13, 2024, in Kimondo II village, Kitagata ward, in Kitagata town council. The victims, Mujuni Trevor (11), Akankunda Shanitah (9), Nahabwe Comfort (10), and Ainembabazi (7), were all in the kitchen when the incident occurred.

In December 2023, lightning struck Treasure Arinda, a 13-year-old son of Vincent Wednesday and a primary five pupil at Kacherere Primary School, and Elia Mwebesa, also 13 years old and the son of Patrick Barigigye. They were residents of Kilwa village, Kiruruma ward, Kacherere town council, Rubanda district, and the incident happened while they were collecting firewood.
