Lira Man In Trouble for Faking Own Kidnap

David Ongom Mudong, the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson, says they swung into swung inaction after receiving a complaint of a missing person from the suspects neighbors.

Lira Police are holding 31-year-old Jimmy Odyek, a resident of Ocukuru Village, Boroboro Parish, Adekokwok Sub County for faking his own kidnap and extorting Shillings 2.5 million from his relatives.

Odyek is said to have several phone calls to his relatives on August 5th 2018 claiming to have been kidnapped by unknown armed persons from Uhuru bar in Lira Town.

He reportedly told his relatives the kidnappers wanted a ransom of Shillings 2.5million to release him or else end his life. 

David Ongom Mudong, the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson, says they swung into swung inaction after receiving a complaint of a missing person from the suspect's neighbors.

He says on Monday Odyek's relatives deposited the ransom money on his mobile. Odyek walked to the Police station a few minutes later, saying he had been released by his kidnappers.

Police has preferred charges of obtaining money by false pretense against Odyek vide CRB 2589/2018 contrary to section 305 of the penal code Act. 

He is locked up at Lira Central Police Station pending the return of his file from the Resident State Attorney.
