Lira district National Resistance Movement (NRM) party offices have been locked over accumulated rent arrears amounting to 1.3 million shillings.
Lira district National Resistance Movement (NRM) party offices have been locked over accumulated rent arrears amounting to 1.3 million shillings.

The two room office along Inomo road in the town centre has been closed for the past two weeks after it was forcefully locked by the landlord Dr.William Alele.

Dr William Alele says the district NRM authority has since July 2012 failed to pay their rent.

The party moved into the premises in 2009 upon agreement to remit 220,000 shillings per month to the landlord Dr.Alele.

Alele accuses the NRM party officials of failing to remit rent for the last six months. He says all efforts to get the party leaders to pay the arrears have fallen on deaf ear.  He says the party now owes him 1,320,000 million shillings.

Alele says has confiscated all the furniture and registration books to recruit more party members.

Lawrence Egole Lira district acting NRM chief, confirms the development saying the money to pay rent has not been sent from the secretariat. He assures NRM members that the rent arrears will be paid soon.
