During a meeting held at the NRM office in Senior Quarters, Lira City East Division, on Wednesday, party supporters accused Etwop of abandoning the party and supporting opposition politicians.
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leadership and supporters in Lira City and District have resolved to ban their party treasurer, Geoffrey Etwop, from accessing their party account.
During a meeting held at the NRM office in Senior Quarters, Lira City East Division, on Wednesday, party supporters accused Etwop of abandoning the party and supporting opposition politicians.
Etwop and Presidential Advisor Francis Okello Opio, also known as Dano Abor, are being criticized for backing UPC’s Betty Amongi Akena, the Minister of Gender, who has declared her interest in contesting against NRM’s Dr. Jane Aceng Ocero, the Minister of Health and Lira City Woman MP.
NRM supporters described Etwop’s actions as a betrayal and called for his immediate removal. They also demanded that he be blocked from accessing the party’s account.

Translation: “Mr. Etwop, after he appeared before the tribunal, should be removed from that position. But as we wait for that, the NRM account must be blocked so that he cannot access it.”
The group also petitioned President Museveni, the NRM National Chairperson, urging him to take action against Etwop and investigate his conduct. They further requested that Okello Opio’s appointment as a presidential advisor be revoked.
George Okot, the lead petitioner, described Etwop as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing,” accusing him of consistently supporting opposition candidates while using his NRM position for personal gain.

Okot emphasized that their petition was aimed at restoring sanity in the NRM structures within Lira City and District.

During the meeting, party members also raised concerns about poor leadership and a lack of support within party structures.

On February 1, Etwop, Okello Opio, and other NRM grassroots supporters attended a rally organized by Minister Betty Amongi, where they publicly declared their support for her.
