Low Activity as NRM Holds LCV Primary Elections

Today the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement is holding nationwide elections to choose flag bearers at Local Council five level.


Unlike during last week's  parliamentary  primaries to choose candidates who will hold the party's flag in the 2021 general election, today's election seem not to have attracted people if polling stations that Uganda radio Network -URN has visited are anything to go by.

Today the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement is holding nationwide elections to choose flag bearers at Local Council five level.

Party members are supposed to choose chairpersons and district councilors. In Kampala competition for the flag is between musician Daniel Kazibwe and Ssebaana Kizito, a nephew to former Kampala mayor, the late John Ssebaana Kizito.

According to guidelines issued by the NRM Electoral Commission voting which will be by lining up behind candidates or their agents  is supposed to take place starting at 11am but at all the polling stations URN has visited in Lubaga division it looks like there are  no elections.

Polling stations like at Nakulabye, Kasubi, Kitunzi, Lungujja, Mengo Bulange, Kitunzi, and Kosovo, the polling officials are nowhere to be seen.

In others like Prof. Apollo Nsibambi zone the polling officials at there but the voters are nowhere to be seen.“I have been here since 8am   but people are not coming,” said Deborah Nalwoga, a polling official at Lungujja polling station.

Here there are three people who have come to  vote.“It seems that people didn’t know about this election, “ said Jane Namiiro.

“Abantu bakoowu okuleka nga abeesimbyewo bebawadde kasente nebabasaba bajje babalonde sisuubira nti okulonda kwa leero kunajjumbirwa, (People are tired. Unless the candidates give them something otherwise I don’t think people will participate in today’s elections,” said another woman who declined to say her name.
