The Principal Judge Flavian Zeija says that although plans for establishing the court began last year, the judiciary failed to secure premises suitable for the High Court.
Luwero High
Court will commence operations next month. This was revealed by Principal Judge
Flavian Zeija.
The court is one of the 20 that were designated in 2016 under the Judicature
Statutory Instrument.
In January
last year, the Judiciary announced that effective July 2021, Luwero High Court
was to start operations to handle cases from Luwero, Nakasongola, and Nakaseke
districts.
The Principal
Judge Flavian Zeija says that although plans for establishing the court began
last year, the judiciary failed to secure premises suitable for the High Court.
Zeija adds that due to inadequate resources, the Chief Magistrate
Court premises will for the time being host the High Court until they construct premises.
He adds that the Chief Magistrate Court has already undergone major renovations
to host the resident Judge and the High Court sessions will commence next
month.

Emmanuel Nsubuga the Kakokoolo-Kavule Parish Ward Councilor welcomed the
operationalization of the court. He said that it will help to clear the case
backlog, offer justice in time, and save people trekking long distances to High
Court in Kampala.
Nsubuga says that several people have been losing cases after failing to travel
to High Court in Kampala daily to attend court sessions.
Erastus Kibirango the LCV Chairperson of Luwero District said that the district
will offer one acre of land to establish High Court premises in Luwero town.
