Mafabi: Opposition to Rein in on Moles

Mafabi says the opposition lived under the illusion of unity needed to pull a single source until the events of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) exposed the true character of some of the opposition leaders.

The leader of opposition in parliament, Nandala Mafabi has threatened to expose what he called spies within the opposition working for the ruling party, NRM achieve its motives.

Mafabi says the opposition lived under the illusion of unity needed to pull a single source until the events of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) exposed the true character of some of the opposition leaders.

Mafabi’s party, the Forum for Democratic Change, is still bitter with the other opposition parties, for secretly nominating candidates for EALA against an agreed position to boycott.

While the opposition had through several meetings agreed to boycott the elections, Democratic Party and the Uganda People’s Congress turned around and fielded one candidate each for the race. The two candidates, Denis Mukasa Mbidde and Chris Opoka, were among the nine legislators elected to represent Uganda at the Arusha-based regional parliament.

During the elections on Wednesday last week, an emotional Mafabi announced that he had fired the two parties from the shadow cabinet for failing to tow the line of boycott.

Mafabi now says they are embarking on a process of exposing those masquerading in the opposition while in reality they are working to help NRM achieve its ill intentions. He noted that while unity and numbers are important for the opposition it would not make sense if it is not grounded in honesty and principle.

//Cue in: “We must help ….

Cue out: ….hands of NRM.”//

There have been several disagreements behind the opposition in Uganda, but the rift has been silent. The opposition who would normally show solidarity on the face value while quarrel behind the scene, were this time round unmasked publicly when they disagreed over their participation in the EALA elections.

Mafabi says he shall be naming the new shadow cabinet in the coming weeks following the expulsion of DP and UPC parties in his cabinet.
