Magyezi Wants Mbale District Land Board Investigated over Illegal Sale of Land

The Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi has ordered for investigations of members of the Mbale District land board. This follows the illegal sale of former Nakaloke town council headquarters land in Mbale City’s Northern Division.

The land measuring over 40 acres was allegedly sold to private developers. The is part of land hosting the town council headquarters, the magistrate's court, the football pitch, the Youth Center among others.

Magyezi also ordered the interdiction and arrest of the then town clerk of Nakaloke town Council Aron Mulyanyuma.

The former Mbale District Chief Administrative Officer Esau Ekachelan who is currently in Pallisa is also on the spot over refusal to surrender the CAO’s Residence to his predecessor. He is also accused of fraudulently acquiring part of the disputed Nakaloke town council land and the Minister said that he is also going to be interdicted.    

Mulyanyuma and the Mbale district land board is accused of conniving with some councillors to sell the land to Ismail Mukakandi, the Worker’s representative at Mbale City council and other land developers.    

Meeting residents of Nakaloke on Friday, Magyezi said that he has received reports that the land board has been behind the illegal sale of the health centre land, water sources, police, court, abattoir and pathways.  

Magyezi said that his office is going to institute a commission of inquiry into the sale, lease and any form of land transactions in Mbale District and City.

Mulyanyuma who has since been promoted to City Planner was later handed over to Police to pave way for investigations.

He warned the property developers to desist from buying government land as they risk losing their money.

 Victoria Keri Husein, a resident of Najja ward told the Minister that part of her land was sold to property developers and that she has moved in all offices for redress but in vain.

The State Minister for Economic Monitoring Peter Ogwang who had accompanied Magyezi said that all the leases on the land should be cancelled.
