Local Council one and two chairpersons in Malera Sub County in Bukedea district are collecting signatures for the censure of the LC III chairperson, Joseph Amailem for alleged failure to run his office efficiently.

This stems from a resolution taken by the 17 LC I Chairperson, 8 LC III Chairperson backed by councillors and opinion leaders during the community dialogue held at Malera Church of Uganda on Tuesday.

Sam Oboi, the LC 1 chairperson of Kokwech village, says that they resolved to mobilise residents for the censure of the sub-county chairperson for failure to run his office.

The LC I and LC II Chairperson also accuse Amailem of among others fueling cattle thefts, dictatorial leadership, removal of some of their colleagues from their offices without the knowledge of the Electoral Commission and taking piglets under the NUSAF III project meant for two beneficiaries in the sub-county.

Amailem has dismissed all the allegations levelled against him by the LC I and LC II chairperson as baseless. “All that the local council ones and twos are doing is nothing to be me because their accusations are false. I am the chairperson LC III Malera fully voted and sworn by the Electoral Commission,” said Amailem.

He claimed that those pushing for his censure don’t know that as LC III chairperson he is mandated to monitor any government office right from sub-county, health facility and police.

Richard Igaa, the Speaker of Malera sub county, who chaired the community dialogue appealed to the LC chairperson to give Amailem one more chance since it was their first meeting, which cannot allow for his removal.

Christine Amongin, an opinion leader and resident of Malera village supported the move by the village and parish chairperson to push for the censure of the sub-county chairperson, saying the leader who looks at only his stomach will fail the sub-county.

Martin Oboiangor, the chairperson of LC I Chairpersons in the sub-county, said they are ready to hand over all their stamps should the government fail their censure of the LC III chairperson. Christin Lea Senyi, the Senior Assistant secretary Malera sub county, promised to guide the sub county leadership.
