Man Hacks Brother to Death over Charcoal Proceeds

The Police in Agago District is hunting for a man for allegedly hacked his brother to death.

The suspect identified as John Bosco Ociti reportedly killed his brother Raymond Okidi Komakech on Thursday night using a machete.

Komakech’s body bearing multiple deep cuts on the neck and head was found Friday morning in Kuroc village, Atut Parish in Kuywee Sub-county.

Morris Ocana, Wol Sub-county LCV Councilor says that the deceased and the suspect had hired the land.

They had moved from their home village in Atori in Agengo Sub-county to a piece of land they hired in Atut Parish, Kuywee Sub-county.

The deceased relocated from Jinja district to Agago district recently and together with his brother, they hired a piece of land to engage in farming.  They had recently cleared part of the land ahead of the new farming season and decided to make charcoal out of the trees cut down. 

Akala told Police that the duo by Thursday had sold bags of charcoal worth 400,000 Shillings but later developed a misunderstanding on how to share proceeds from sales of the charcoal. He noted that at the wee hours of the night, Ociti picked a machete and hacked his brother in anger before fleeing the scene.  

Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema noted that the Police visited the crime scene and retrieved the deceased body pending post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Okema said the police also recovered a machete and blood-stained shirt which will be used as exhibits as the investigation is on-going.

He says the suspect is still at large adding that a manhunt is underway for him to face justice.
