The body of an unidentified man has been found in the bush after clashes between the Pokot and the Pian warriors in Kawala village Tokora sub-county, Nakapiripirit district.

According to preliminary reports, a group of Pian and Pokot warriors clashed in Kawala village, resulting in the death of an unidentified Karamojong man. The incident is believed to be related to a cattle raid that occurred earlier in the day.

Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson said that the team of investigators visited the scene and, recovered 05 pieces of cartridges.

Longole added that they found when the local community members had already discovered the body while searching for missing animals in the bush.

He urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

"We are working tirelessly to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and ensure that justice is served. The police are appealing to the public to remain calm and cooperative as they continue to investigate this incident" Longole said.

The incident comes barely a week after suspected Pokot warriors carried out another deadly attack that resulted in the death of two people in the villages of Achelel and Nadip before proceeding to the ASTU detachment where they stole one gun.

The communities, especially in the Tokora sub-county, are now arguing that the government should consider allowing them to recruit five local defense personnel in each parish to help the security forces on the ground counter the armed warriors.

John Agan, the LCIII Chairperson of Tokora sub-county said that the warriors often defeat the soldiers because they are not used to the terrains of the area.

Agan noted that the warriors have taken advantage of the terrain to succeed in most of the attacks they carry out.

Agan observed that the Pokot warriors have taken over his sub-county and they are freely moving with firearms in the bushes.

Agan appealed to the government to allow them to recruit at least five local defense personnel per parish who would be armed and work with the Joint Security Forces.

Agan is optimistic that the recruitment of local defense personnel would help to deal with the warriors because they know all their tactics.

He also noted that the local defense know all the routes where the warriors pass and it would be better for them to guide the forces during the operations and ambushes.

John Bosco Lochoro, an elder also shares the same views to have the local defense personnel selected from each parish to help the security forces during the operations.

Lochoro noted that the selected boys would be under the command of the UPDF when executing their duties and all the guns would be kept in the military installation.

He added that they can only sign for the guns when it is time for duty and responding to the attack.

Lochoro said that the warriors seem to have identified the gaps in the forces and it has motivated them to gain momentum in their attacks.
