Man Kills Wife, Commits Suicide in Nakasongola

Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson says that preliminary investigations indicate that Galimaka picked a quarrel with his wife Nakazibwe which resulted in a fight.
A man in Nakasongola District has committed suicide after killing his wife.

The deceased persons have been identified as Aminah Nakazibwe aged 32 years old and Charles Galimaka, all residents of Nalukonge village, Lwabyata sub-county.   It is reported that the incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson says that preliminary investigations indicate that Galimaka picked a quarrel with his wife Nakazibwe which resulted in a fight.

Twineamazima adds that Galimaka picked a hoe and cut the wife to death thereafter he also committed suicide by hanging.

Twineamazima says that Police later arrived at the scene and transferred the bodies to Nakasongola Health Center IV for postmortem.

Robert Kalanzi, the LCIII Chairperson of Lwabyata sub county says that Nakazibwe left home on Tuesday over differences with her husband but returned on Thursday to pick a dress.

“Unfortunately he found the husband home who accused her of abandoning him for another man. Galimaka fought with the wife and later picked a hoe which he used to cut her to death.’’ Kalanzi said.

Bernard Kirya Ssekyanzi, the Budyebo County Member of Parliament condemned the domestic violence and blamed the incident on alcoholism.

“I have got the information that the man was an alcohol addict and jobless who always fought with his wife over simple issues. We need to sensitize the public about the dangers of alcohol abuse.'' Budyebo County Kirya said.

The couple has left behind five children.

Early this year, Police in Nakasongola arrested Daniel Toyo of Kalungu village in Wabinyonyi sub-county after he allegedly killed his wife, Kate Acio alias Kisakye aged 24 years, and his three-year-old daughter.

It is reported that after the murder, the suspect dug two graves in the forest near his home and secretly buried the deceased.

Domestic violence remains among the most reported crimes across the country.

A total of 301 cases of murder as a result of domestic violence were reported to the Police in 2022.

At least 25 cases of murders were reported in Nakasongola in the year some as a result of domestic violence.
