A young man who was allegedly knocked by the president’s advance security team in Kanungu district is seeking compensation of Shillings 100 million for treatment and damages. The complainant is 24-year-old Davis Orishaba, a resident of Kitokye in Hishenyi in Kanyantorogo sub-county in Kanungu district.

According to Orishaba, he was knocked by the president’s advance team on December 21st, 2018 while riding a motorcycle at Burema full gospel church when he visited the district to commission the construction of Rukungiri-Kihihi-Ishasha-Kanungu tarmac road.

He says after the accident, the president’s team dropped him at Kanyantorogo town instead of taking him to hospital. Orishaba says that he has been in and out of hospital in Bwindi, Kilembe and Makanga among other areas where he has spent over Shillings 20 million but still need an operation.

According to Orishaba, he was promised medical assistance from statehouse but nothing has come three years down the road. He says traffic officers from Kanungu police station that handled his file, said that the assistance was stopped once it was established that he didn’t have a riding permit.

Orishabe says he is unable to fend for his family of three children and wife since he is jobless. He also said his wife is unable to work since the president closed the weekly markets where she used to earn a living to support the family.

He now wants the president’s office to pay him Shillings 100 million for treatment and damages for the harm inflicted on him after the accident. Kanungu Resident District Commissioner, Haji Shafiq Ssekandi Sengooba said he was aware of Orishaba’s complaint.

He also disclosed that he has tried to solicit for him support from the relevant offices but his efforts haven’t yielded results.
