Sixty-year old, Isabirye Makikiri, a resident of Bukyangwa village, in Bukoma sub county, in Luuka district, on Monday evening succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack by panga wielding men.
Makikiri sustained deep cuts on the head, neck and back.
Makikiri was attacked by two panga wielding men during the night of 14th, November, 2021.
He was briefly admitted at Kiyunga health center IV, before being referred to Jinja regional referral hospital's emergency unit for further management.
Makikiri's six year old grandson says that he hid under the bed, but he overheard the attackers instructing his grandfather to give them money.
"It was dark and when the panga wielding men stormed the house, they directed grandfather to give them all the money, which he had earned from selling coffee and when he tried to shout for help, they instead started attacking him," he says.
Meanwhile, Luuka's district police commander, John Oese has called upon members of the general public to hand over wrong elements to the nearest security authorities, so as to minimize criminal tendencies within their communities.
Oese adds that safety of communities is a collective responsibility by both the public and police authorities alike, since wrong elements are part of the general society setup.
