More than 800 Village Health Teams-VHTs in Manafwa district have rejected payment of 50,000 Shillings as their Covid-19 allowance.

The district received over 673 Million Shillings from the Ministry of Health to fight the spread of coronavirus in communities and Village health teams were tasked to mobilize and sensitize the communities about covid-19.

Each VHT was supposed to receive 50,000 Shillings per month for three months.

On Wednesday, the VHTs were surprised when they were each given 50,000 Shillings instead of 150,000 Shillings. They asked why other districts like Mbale and Namisindwa were paying the VHTs the full amount.

The VHTs says that they incurred transport costs sensitizing and mobilizing the community.
