Residents of Kasanje village, in Kyesiga Sub County, Masaka district, have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni to intervene in a looming eviction.

In July court cleared the eviction of more than 500 households from 350-acre piece of land at Kasanje village.

Masaka Chief Magistrate Deogratius Ssejemba ruled that the residents illegally settled on the land belonging to Joseph Bukenya.

Residents led by Mudashiru Bbaale the sub-county councillor and also the Kyesiga sub-county speaker on Tuesday asked President Museveni to intervene because they don’t have anywhere to go.

Bbaale says that President Museveni during his operation wealth creation tour in Masaka region promised to ask his lawyers to intervene.

Bbaale says that they have started mobilizing for funds to appeal against the court ruling.

Andrew Kaggwa another resident says that Bukenya failed to prove ownership of the land he claims to have obtained from an Asian Praful Patel before Asians were expelled in 1972.

Bukenya has however asked residents to honour the court ruling and vacate his land because the ultimatum given to the squatters will elapse on Saturday.
