Freda Nanziri Kase Mubanda, the National Resistance
Movement-NRM party candidate for the Masaka Woman parliamentary set is on the
spot for allegedly torturing the supporters of her rival, Joanitah Nalule in
the just concluded primary elections.
Mubanda was declared winners with
11,908 votes against Nalule’s 5,569 votes.
At least seven supporters of Nalule in Kyesiiga Sub
County in Bukoto Central constituency are still nursing injuries they sustained
in the campaigns to the run-up of the NRM primaries.
The victims accuse Mubanda
of hiring gangs of youths that went around beating up the supporters of her
political rival two days to the elections.
Mikdad Lusiba, the Chairperson of Lwemodde Village in
Kyesiiga Sub County is one of the victims of the election violence.
to Lusiba, a group of youth driving in Mubanda’s campaign vehicles stormed the
village armed with the machetes and started beating up whoever was opposed to
Lusiba, who is nursing wounds on his back and on the
edge of his lips, says he was kidnapped on the eve of primary and tortured by a
group of youth accusing him of not supporting their candidate.

The victims of the electoral violence have petitioned
Masaka District NRM Executive Committee demanding to reprimand Mubanda and
compel her to pay for their treatment.
Paul Muweesi, the Bugere Parish NRM Youth Publicity
Secretary, says besides reporting the matter to police, they also want the
party leadership to reprimand Mubanda for procuring their torture.
He says that should the party fail to act, they may
also, be compelled to revenge when Mubanda returns to campaign in their area
during the general elections.

Efforts by our reporter to speak to Mubanda about the
allegations didn’t yield results as her known phone numbers have been unavailable
for the past two days.
Peter Ssekungu, the Masaka District NRM Chairperson has
confirmed receiving complaints of torture against party supporters in Kyesiiga Sub
County, saying they are keenly following up the matter.
