Even as most families in Uganda are having trouble buying cooking oil due to escalating prices, a Masindi woman has chosen to use it to bathe her husband while it is boiling hot, almost killing him in the process.

Police have now arrested the 32-year-old woman for the atrocious offense.

The suspect is identified as Eunice Kiiza, a resident of Bubanda village in Kitamba parish, Bwijanga sub-county.

It is alleged that on April 29, 2022, the woman picked a quarrel with her husband identified as Benard Achidri of the same area. She accused Achidri of falling in love with other women in the area.

As Achidri went to sleep at around 10p.m on the fateful day, she prepared hot cooking oil that she poured on her husband’s body severely burning him. He was severely burnt in the face, chest, head and neck.

Achidri made an alarm that attracted the attention of his neighbors who came to his rescue and rushed him to Bwijanga health center III for treatment.

According to Achidri, his wife does not want him to associate with any one in the area including members of his family.

Pascal Andama, a neighbor says, they heard Achidri screaming for help and rushed to see what was happening to him, only to find that his wife had poured hot cooking oil on his body. They immediately rushed him to Bwijanga health center for treatment as the wife had already fled the area.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says after the case was reported to police, they immediately embarked on hunting for the ruthless woman since she had fled their marital home after committing the offense.

Hakiza says they arrested her on Wednesday and that she is currently being detained at Masindi central police station on charges of causing grievous harm on her husband.
