Police in Matugga, in collaboration with Kawempe and Kasangati counterparts, are intensifying their search for the suspects involved in the gang rape and murder of Specioza Nabaale, a 31-year-old chips seller. Nabaale was discovered dead in a banana plantation in Mabanda cell, Matuga, Gombe division, Wakiso district, on August 31. Preliminary investigations reveal that she had been sexually assaulted and murdered.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, the local community alerted the police to the crime. "Police responded to the scene, collected statements from witnesses, and processed the area for evidence. The body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination," SSP Onyango said.

Scene of crime officers, accompanied by detectives, reported that Nabaale showed clear signs of assault, including swollen eyes, rigor mortis, and bleeding from the private parts. A knife was recovered near the scene, suggesting that the suspects may have used it to coerce Nabaale. The evidence indicates that multiple individuals were involved in the crime.

SSP Onyango added that the suspects are still unknown, but police are doing everything possible to apprehend them. He urged anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist with the investigation. The incident in Matugga follows a recent double murder in Katwe linked to domestic violence.

In that case, 19-year-old Sharon Rukundo was killed by her partner, Kude, believed to be between 20-25 years old. Following the murder, Kude attempted to flee but was lynched by locals. "The police appeal to couples to resolve domestic issues amicably without resorting to violence. We also urge the public not to take the law into their own hands but to report incidents to the authorities," SSP Onyango said.
