Mbale Municipality MP Jack Wamai Bows Out of Active Politics

Wamanga said that he had served to his expectations and is now satisfied after a successful bid to elevate Mbale to City Status, among other things, and now wants to leave the space others to come in and serve the constituency with new energy and ideas.

Mbale Municipality Member of Parliament Jack Wamanga Wamai has announced his retirement from active politics. Wamai said he will not seek re-election after his current term which is ending in 2021. 

Wamai who has served in Parliament for two and a half terms from the eighth, ninth and the tenth Parliament, announced his decision during the ceremony for the inauguration of Mbale City at the Mbale municipal council grounds in Mbale city on Thursday.   

Wamanga said that he had served to his expectations and is now satisfied after a successful bid to elevate Mbale to City Status, among other things, and now wants to leave the space others to come in and serve the constituency with new energy and ideas.    

“I have been one of the best MPs in parliament, I have brought up the issues including the city, the Industrial park, the market, the roads all these came during my time, I have really worked for my people in Mbale,” he said.   

But he appealed to voters to oust all leaders who have been cited in corruption scandals that dominated the administration under Mbale Municipality. He says the new city needs leaders who will put service delivery on top of their priorities.

Meanwhile, State Minister for Local Government Jennifer Namuyangu, who presided over the inauguration of the city cautioned the leaders against corruption but asked them to work towards organizing the city in terms of infrastructure. Namuyangu said that Cities are supposed to facilitate quality technical and political leaders who will serve the public interest.

Mbale City Interim Mayor Mutwalibu Mafabi Zandya lauded the Ministry of Local Government for maintaining his position as one of the leaders who were in the struggle to elevate Mbale municipality to city status. He pledged unity and urged all other members of the city to put aside politics for the development of Mbale City.

Bungokho North Member of Parliament Gershom Sizomu Wambende  said that he wants to see Mbale’s face is uplifted with facilities like an airport.

Mbale District Woman MP Connie Nakayenze Galiwango said that all old buildings in the city should be demolished, and Mbale Stadium refurbished to give the city a new face.
