Mbarara City traders have set conditions before they are relocated from the city.

Last year, the City Executive Committee chaired by Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi resolved to relocate the traders from the streets to Amagara Marungi Business Park.

The affected traders include timber dealers, welders, and mechanics, that are operating along Victor Bwana road, Akiiki Nyabongo road, Aharibiri along Mbarara- Masaka road among others.

Richard Mugisha the Deputy City Clerk says the relocation that was supposed to be done early this year was delayed by the owners of the land who demanded a Memorandum of Understanding with the city council authorities which has now been secured.

After the tour of the Business Park on Tuesday, the traders raised set several demands that the city leadership should address before they are relocated and also extend the time of relocation for more than six months.

They demanded that more drainage systems are constructed and those already constructed should be covered. The traders also asked that the next meeting be held at the park with all the traders.

Fred Mulamuzi a timber dealer, however, differed saying the place was not suitable for them because it was waterlogged.

Mugisha says they have agreed to extend the relocation from January for more than three months to allow the leaders to convince other traders and also improve the park as per the traders' demands.
