Mbarara Leaders Want Investigations into Fraudulent Giveaway of Kakyeera Land

Mbarara City leaders are demanding investigations in the fraudulent leasing of Kakyeera land to an investor. 

Among those to be investigated are the senior procurement officer Edgar Rwabutwagu and the Contracts Committee head James Agaba.

The Mbarara City Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi says the Kakayeera Land was rented out at a mere 14 million shillings in a manner that needs to be investigated.

He says much it is alleged that the land was rented out there is no agreement between the client who won the bidding process as alleged by the procurement Unit and the Mbarara city.

Kakyebezi also says that the Procurement and Disposal Unit did not follow the right procedure.

John Kavigi, Chairperson of Social Service Committee says they had earlier also as council recommended the opening of the boundaries at Kakyeera land which had been encroached on in the south east and north east of the land but for two months now, nothing has been done.

Kakyebezi says when they visited the land someone was using the land and asked the office of the town clerk to provide the executive with papers that have not been done.

Kakyebezi says the City Executive committee recommended before the council that the Contracts Committee be canceled and the senior Procurement officer bedisciplined.

Bonny Tashobya Karushya, the city speaker directed the City Mayor to write to the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations department Mbarara Central Police station to investigate further the Kakyeera Land Issue.

Muhamed Byansi the City Councilor Mbarara City South A welcomed the city executive recommendation but asked that the City clerk as the accounting officer also be investigated.

Shibbah Byentaro, City Councilor for workers say the town clerk should provide the council with all documentation about Kakyeera land to close the matter.
