Medical Records Personnel Give Government 90 Day's Ultimatum to Address Welfare Concerns

In their press briefing in the boardroom of Arua Regional Referral Hospital on Saturday morning, Emmanuel Manenga, the Publicity Secretary Bonded Uganda Health Information Officers and Medical Coders Association-BUMECA, said that they have given government up to April 1st, 2022 to address their concerns lest they lay down their tools nationwide.

Medical Records and Health Informatics Personnel have given the government a 90 day90-day ultimatum to address their welfare concerns. 

Among the key issues raised by the health, records personnel is the payment of their salary arrears of Shillings 200,000 from July 2018 to date, provision of scholarships at degree level, recruitment of more medical records and informatics personnel to reduce the current work burden, and enhancing their salary to the standard level of between Shillings 316,000 to 1million as provided for in the Public Service Act.

 

In their press briefing in the boardroom of Arua Regional Referral Hospital on Saturday morning, Emmanuel Manenga, the Publicity Secretary Bonded Uganda Health Information Officers and Medical Coders Association-BUMECA, said that they have given government up to April 1st, 2022 to address their concerns lest they lay down their tools nationwide.  

He warned that failure by the government to respond to their demands will compel them to stop compiling weekly surveillance reports on COVID-19, HIV, TB Data, and all electronic medical records and data compilation.

Bosco Aluonzi, the Head of Medical Records at Arua Hospital, says that what their members are demanding from the government ranges from between Shillings 470,000 and 795,000 as standard Salary for Medical Records staff.

There are over 2,000 health Medical Records Officers working from Health Center Four up to the National Referral Hospital including government agencies.  

The threat by the medical Records personnel to lay down their tools comes three weeks after Intern doctors laid down their tools over unpaid allowances by the government. 

The Health Ministry is yet to comment on the issues raised by the medical records offers.
