Mubende Chief Administrative Officer, Lillian Nakamatte says much of the medicines and veterinary drugs disbursed by the government for Mubende and Kassanda districts have gone to waste because of lack of power to keep them under refrigeration.
Livestock vaccines worth millions of Shillings meant for Mubende and Kassanda districts have gone to
waste due to a power blackout that has affected the
two districts for the past three weeks.
The transformer serving Mubende district
administration and its surrounding areas broke down three weeks ago due to
heavy rains.
Mubende Chief Administrative Officer, Lillian Nakamatte says much of the medicines
and veterinary drugs disbursed by the government for Mubende and Kassanda districts
have gone to waste because of lack of power to keep them under refrigeration.
She
has asked Umeme supervisory staff in Mubende area to consider replacing or
repairing the transformer and restore the power supply.

Mubende Deputy Health Officer, Dr. Ssendi Bosco says the district can no longer
maintain the cold condition under, which the medicines should be kept since
they cannot fuel their generators any more due to lack of funds.

The District Animal Husbandry Officer, Geoffrey Jondrio, says among the
consignments in the district vaccine stores are vaccines for foot and mouth
disease, pest vaccine and rabies vaccine.
He says animal vaccination can’t go
as planned because the vaccines can no longer be used.

Mubende LC 5 Vice-chairperson, Sheif Magezi has expressed dismay that the
central prisons has remained in darkness for three weeks despite hosting hard
core criminals.
He says the failure by Umeme to restore power might trigger
mask escape of inmates just like the case in Moroto.

Umeme officials in the district
haven’t yet commented as the area manager couldn’t be reached by the time of
filing this story.
