Mother, Two Children Drown in Fish Pond after Domestic Brawl

Grace Mbali, the Dongi Village LC I chairperson says the deceased has been a casual worker at the pond where she drowned with her children. Mbali says eyewitnesses confided in him that the deceased lied to the caretaker of the pond caretaker that she had forgotten her phone around the area.
A mother in Buyende district has jumped to death in a fish pond together with her two children following a domestic brawl with her husband. The deceased is Resty Namugere, a resident of Dongi village in Kagulu Sub County.

The children are 2-year- old Rasulu Kaziba and her 4-year-old sister, Lukia Nakaziba. According to information obtained by URN, Namugere clashed with her husband Muzamiru Mpala on Thursday for his alleged involvement in an extra marital affair.

She reportedly wrapped her two children on the back and jumped in a fish pond in Irundu trading center, where they drowned. The fish pond is about one kilometer away from the couple’s home. Mpala told journalists that their marriage has been characterised with endless disagreements without clear solutions.

"My wife and I have experienced endless marital wars during this five year old marriage and efforts to reconcile our differences had failed. She could leave home almost on a monthly basis but it didn't cross my mind that she could take her own life," he said.

Grace Mbali, the Dongi Village LC I chairperson says the deceased has been a casual worker at the pond where she drowned with her children. Mbali says eyewitnesses confided in him that the deceased lied to the caretaker of the pond caretaker that she had forgotten her phone around the area.

"I have been reliably informed that the deceased went straight to the pond with an intention of committing suicide and it wasn't an accident," he said. Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North police spokesperson says statements recorded at Buyende central police station indicate that Namugere tied her children's faces and intentionally drowned with them in the pond.

He says the deceased’s bodies were retrieved from the pond where they were found floating and taken to Kidera health center IV mortuary awaiting postmortem.
