The National Resistance Movement -NRM has given the Forum for Democratic Change -FDC a stunning blow in Moyo district by snatching its LCV candidate just a month to the elections.
Isaac Drajuruga who was duly nominated on FDC ticket for the Moyo district LC 5 chair took his supporters by surprise yesterday when he announced his defection to NRM and called on the shocked supporters to vote for the NRM LC 5 flag bearer Williams Anyama.
In his official unveiling as a new member of the NRM party on Monday at Celecelea stadium, Drajuruga told NRM
supporters who organized to welcome him that he sees no reason of contesting
against the NRM LC 5 flag bearer. Dismissing allegations of possible bribery,
Drajuruga noted that the contribution of NRM to the development of Moyo
district since 1986 has been convincing enough for him to step down.

himself from accusations of paying off Drajuruga to leave the space for him.
According to Anyama, Drajuruga’s decision
was never influenced by any cash factor from the NRM.

However, Kaps Hassan Fungaroo the FDC northern region
Mobilizer has described the defection of Drajuruga as stage managed and
manipulated by the NRM Secretariat, which he warns could be regrettable to Drajuruga
in the near future.
The stepping down and defection of Drajuruga to NRM has
left Moyo district with three candidates two of who are Independents.
