The Democratic Party-DP leadership has compelled Deogratias Kiyingi, the Bukomansimbi County Member of Parliament to withdraw his support for independent and NRM party candidates in the district. Kiyingi was compelled to announce the decision at crisis meeting convened by Bukomansimbi DP delegates at Butenga sub county headquarters on Monday.

The meeting was chaired by Joseph Ssekibaala, the Bukomansimbi district DP Chairman and Paul Ssembajjwe, a Member of the National Executive Committee. During the meeting, the party members accused Kiyingi of supporting Immaculate Nabawanuka and Adam Bazibumbira, the independent candidates for Bukomansimbi Woman and Bukomansimbi North parliamentary seats respectively.

The DP candidate Bukomansimbi North parliamentary is Hollix Yiga Muwonge. He was also accused of opposing the party decision to front Veronicah Nanyondo Namaganda to replace her late sister Suzan Namaganda, the former Bukomansimbi Woman Member of Parliament. Josephine Namulindwa, a DP supporter accused Kiyingi of allowing NRM candidates to pin their campaign posters at the DP offices in Bukomansimbi town council.

The Delegates also accused Kiyingi of creating cliques in the party with the aim of fighting official party candidates ahead of the 2016 polls. As a result, Joseph Ssekibaala, the Bukomansimbi district DP Chairman and Paul Ssembajjwe, a Member of the National Executive Committee tasked Kiyingi to publicly declare support for DP candidates or else they expel him from the party.

Ssembajjwe asked Kiyingi to shake hands with DP candidates as a sign of reconciliation and publicly declare his support for them to end the bickering among party members. Ssembajjwe also ordered DP supporters to pull down the campaign posters of NRM and Independent candidates from the DP offices.

Cue out: …office is opened.”//

Kiyingi said he is ready to support DP candidates but asked the party leadership to investigate officials in Kampala who send their agents to destablise the party members.

// Cue in: “That is hearsay…

Cue out:….disorganize the party.”//

Some DP members vowed to start decampaign Kiyingi should he failed to abide by the resolutions from the meeting. Joseph Ssekibaala, Bukomansimbi DP Chairman says he is happy that Kiyingi has publicly declared support for DP candidates.

According to Ssekibaala, the tension between Kiyingi and other DP members has split the party, which he says affects their chances in the next elections.
