Mathias Mpuuga, the Member of Parliament for Masaka Municipality stormed the DP summit at Social Center on Friday sparking off  fresh controversy over current wrangles between Samuel Lubega faction and Norbert Mao group.

The meeting convened by city lawyer, Joseph Balikudembe, who is also the former DP Vice Chairman for Buganda region, was meant to interpret the confusion surrounding the recent court ruling that nullified Mao’s leadership.

The organizers said the meeting was also called to forge a way forward for all politicians, who were allegedly expelled from DP for standing as independents in the February general elections.

While many DP supporters including Samuel Lubega, the former Presidential candidate and Joseph Balikudembe, a Kampala city based lawyer and former Buganda region DP vice Chairman, focused on the interpreting the court of appeal ruling and how to overthrow Mao’s leadership, Mpuuga has a different view.

Mpuuga, who stormed the summit late in the evening, said it was a waste of their time to discuss Mao group and court ruling at this time. He said instead the meeting shoudl have discussed the sources and ways of getting rid of  bad governance.

// Cue in: “The party and state are two different things…..”

Cue out: “….very fast in building democracy.”//

But Joseph Balikudembe, a City lawyer and Samuel Lubega, the former presidential candidate disagreed with Mpuuga. Lubega explained that they need to pursue the nullification of Mao’s leadership, to restore adherence to DP’s lost constitutional glory.

// Cue in: “The way forward …..”

Cue out: “….can we heal the wounds.”//

Joseph Balikudembe, the former DP Vice Chairman Buganda region said he is happy he has told DP supporters the truth about the court of appeal ruling. He explained the court ruling means that whatever the current DP national

Executive does is null and void.

According to Balikubembe, what Mao and his group need to do is to ensure that they get in touch with Prof. Ebil Otto, the former Secretary General to convene fresh national delegates’ conference to elect new party leaders.

But Denis Mukasa Mbidde, the DP legal advisor  told URN that it is not possible to convene a delegate’s conference with Lubega’s group. He explained that they do not believe in the court ruling because it is not applicable at this time. Argues that it was only applicable then before they went for general elections.
