Mufti Mubaje Dragged to Court Again

Sheikh Abtahiyyu Kinobe has sued the Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, and two other top officials of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council for allegedly staying in office illegally.



Sheikh Abtahiyyu Kinobe this afternoon filed a petition in Kampala High court through his lawyer M/s D&G Associate against Sheikh Mubaje, Engineer Siraji Zaidi Kavuma, the secretary general and former chairman Dr Abdul Kadir Balonde.





He wants court to declare that the Mufti was sacked from office and continues operating illegally.



Kinobe is also suing Kavuma, the UMSC secretary general for organizing a special general meeting on November 26 for purposes of approving Dr Balonde, in contravention of the UMSC constitution.



He argues that the mufti ignored a court order obtained by Ahmed Wadrif, the deputy vice chairman of UMSC stopping the meeting.



Kinobe says that during the said meeting, the suspension of businessman Hassan Bassajabalaba as UMSC chairman was confirmed, and Dr Balonde also confirmed as chairman.



Kinobe wants court to declare null and void the appointment of Dr Balonde as UMSC chairman. He wants court to also declare that Mubajje is no longer the Mufti of Uganda having been removed from that office by the General assembly in the meeting held on December 1st.



Kinobe also wants all deliberations of the meeting held on 26th November be declared illegal including the appointment of the Electoral commission, creation of new districts, and appointment of new district khadi

Since 2006, Mubajje has been in the spotlight following wrangles over the alleged sale of Muslim property. Court is yet to set a date for hearing of the case.
