Police have deployed heavily around Masaka town as Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje leads hundreds of faithful in unity prayers.

The joint reconciliation prayers being held at Kitenga Central Mosque in Nyendo –Ssenyange division follow similar prayers held at Nakasero and Old Kampala mosques in Kampala.

The prayers were proposed after Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto, Sheikh Mohammad Yunus Kamoga, Amir Ummah and Sheikh Mubarak Mugerwa agreed to unite under the leadership of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Sheikh Mubajje had earlier written to police seeking for protection as he conducts the prayers at Masaka Central Mosque. But Masaka District Security Committee relocated the prayers to Kitenga mosque to avoid violence.

A group of Muslim leaders loyal to Kibuli based faction opposed Mubajje\'s visit in the area saying their bosses in Kibuli had instructed them to block the prayer meeting.

Sheikh Swaibu Ndugga, the rival Masaka district Kadhi said they were not ready to embrace the unity prayer.

However, even after relocating the prayers to Nyendo, hundreds of anti-riot police officers have been deployed around Masaka. The anti-riot police is commanded by Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the Director of Operations in Uganda Police force.

Kaweesi says  they got intelligent information that some people were planning to disrupt peace in the area.

Cue out: …into their hands.”//

Mufti Mubajje is in the company of Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto, the leader of Uganda Muslim Tablig community, Acting Amir Ummah Sheikh Yahya Mwanje and the head of Society for Preaching Islam and Denunciation of Innovation and Qadianism- SPIDIQA Foundation Sheikh Mubarak Mugerwa.

In 2009, the late Sheikh Huzairu Kiruuta, who was the Masaka district Kadhi was kicked out of office by Muslims allied to Kibuli faction over alleged incompetence and failure to convene council meetings and his loyalty to Mubajje.

This sparked off Muslim wrangles. Kiruuta was assaulted when he attempted to return to his office.
