Mufti Mubajje Asks Police To Arrest Luzinda Over Nude Photos

The Mufti of Uganda Ramadhan Mubajje has blasted police for failing to arrest musician Desire Luzinda whom he accused of breaching Anti-pornography Act after her nude photos leaked on social media.

 

On November 3, intimate photos of Luzinda started to circulate on social media. The photos were allegedly leaked by her estranged former lover Franklin Emuobor.

 

Luzinda has since admitted that the photos belonged to her and apologized to the public saying they were taken in privacy and not meant to be seen by the public.

 

But Ramadhan Mubajje says that taking nude photos degrades a woman and it's unacceptable in both Ugandan culture and religious values.

 

Mubajje says that spreading the same photos is against the pornography act which was recently passed by the parliament.

 

Section 13 of the Anti-pornography Act makes it illegal for a person to produce, traffic, or publish any form of pornography and on conviction is liable to a fine of Shs10m or imprisonment not exceeding 10 years.

 

He says that Desire Luzinda and her alleged lover should have been arrested and charged for promoting pornography but he is surprised to hear that police is issuing conflicting reports on when it will summon or arrest them. 

 

Mubajje challenged police to arrest Luzinda now or people may resort to mob justice because police and courts of law are failing to perform their duties.

Mubajje also revealed that he was recently denied a visa to attend a conference in New York, United States because of his stance on homosexuality. He said he would not relent in his fight against the vice which Islam and African cultures condemn.

 

Mustapha Lule, the Luweero District Kadhi, says Luzinda's action is embarrassing for all women. He urges police not to take the matter lightly but to arrest her or other women may think it is ok to take such photos too and share them.

 

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, says police is not taking the matter lightly. He challenged Mufti Mubajje to help them locate Luzinda and she will be promptly arrested. He says Luzinda has gone into hiding and switched off all her known phone lines. 

 

Enanga says police is working on tracking her down to explain why she took the photos and make a statement on the matter.

 

Recently the Minister of Ethics and Integrity Fr. Simon Lukodo also asked Police to arrest Luzinda and warned that even those sharing her photos will be charged with pornography act.

 

While appearing on BBC Focus on Africa this week, Luzinda regretted taking the photos and described the leaking as revenge and never intended it.

 

Recently Makindye Chief Magistrates Court remanded to Luzira a local artist Jemimah Kansiime a.k.a Panadol Wa Basajja for recording a song said to promote pornography contrary to the Anti-pornography Act 2014.

 

Her producer Muchwa March Didi Mugisha was fined 200,000 shillings after he pleaded guilty of the offense.
