The Democratic Party President, Norbert Mao has blasted those asking the party to halt its planned reunion in Mukono district citing the ill health of the area legislator, Betty Nambooze. DP expected to send a caravan to Mukono district on Wednesday to spread a message of unity and revival of the party.

This follows the reunion of Uganda Young Democrats held on May 23rd at Makerere University Rugby Grounds. However, some party members led by Erisa Nkoyoyo, the LC III Chairperson Goma Town council have been calling for the suspension of the event, saying it will be insensitive to proceed when the area MP is sick and under police surveillance.

Nambooze, who is admitted at Kiruddu hospital, has been under police surveillance since her arrest last week for allegedly inciting violence. However, the DP President, Norbert Mao, says those calling for the suspension of the party event are pyschophants trying to stay relevant in Nambooze's life by positioning themselves as defendants of her rights.

According to Mao, it was the unanimous decision of the party leadership and Mukono District DP executive that the reunion proceeds as planned. He says the party has supported Nambooze since her arrest and continues to fight for her rights.

"As I talk now we have written to all groups. The Human rights watch and Amnesty International talking about this abuse,” he said during the weekly DP presser. Samuel Mukako Lubega, a member of the DP Unity National Coordinating committee, says this should be the opportune moment to display solidarity for Nambooze.

"If you want to be sensitive enough and speak for those who have been incarcerated and those who are sick and those who are denied, come tomorrow, make your statement and then the other day we much to Parliament as a team of 10.000,” he said.

DP will hold the same events in Gulu, Greater Masaka, Bugisu and other regions of the Country at a later date.
