A makeshift bridge crossing over River Musamya connecting Nagoje Sub County in Mukono District to Najjembe Division in Lugazi Municipality is exposing the lives of travelers at risk. The makeshift was established in 2020 using timber and poles from eucalyptus after torrential rains washed away the concrete bridge that was constructed way back in 2010.

The section of the bridge that was washed away measures about 50 meters. On Monday evening, 65-year-old Mariam Namakula, a resident of Wasswa Village at Najjembe Division slipped off the bridge and drowned in the river. Ronald Malofu, the LC I Chairperson of Wasswa Village, says that Namakula is not the first person to fall into the river.

He says that several people have fallen into the river since its establishment. According to Malofu, he has made several appeals to the authorities to reconstruct the bridge but nothing is forthcoming.

Gerald Gololo, a resident of Najjembe Division practices farming in Mukono district. He explains that he finds it challenging now to cross the makeshift with his produce on a motorcycle. According to Gololo, he needs Shillings 6000 up from Shillings 2500 to use the Kampala-Jinja Highway from his garden in Nagoje.

The Lugazi Municipal Mayor, John Bosco Asea says they have planned to start working on Musamya Road Bridge before the end of this financial year. He explains that the municipality is aware of the state of the bridge but they didnt have funds to repair it in the past financial years.
