Mukono Resident District Commissioner, Fatuma Ndisaba Nabitaka over the
weekend cut short the belated international youth day celebrations citing
misconduct by the youth leaders.
It came after the youths echoed provocative
choruses complaining about the district’s failure to fund their activities and
events during the youth day celebrations held at Ntaawo Youth Skills Development
Centre in Mukono Central Division, Mukono Municipality.

“You will invite us next time and we don’t come.
Then you complain that we shun your functions. If you are to behave in this
same manner, don’t invite me next time.”
Florence Birungi, the Mukono District female
youth councilor, said that the district allocated youth activities only
Shillings 4M for the entire financial year, something which did not go down
well with them.

“We have been dismayed by the fact that later we
were told that the district had no money and instead reduced our vote to Shillings
2M channelled through the district executive committee. Unfortunately, they also
failed to deliver the Shillings 2M.”
Mukono District LC V Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Peter
Bakaluba Mukasa denied any wrongdoing, saying that as the head of the district
executive committee he was not involved in the planning of the function.

Agnes Kirabo noted that although youth in different districts she represents
face the problem of underfunding, Mukono district is worse given the fact that
even the little money allocated was not availed to the youths.
