President Yoweri Museveni on Friday afternoon commissioned the Kigezi Zonal Industrial Hub and three roads in Kabale District. Located along the Kabale-Katuna Road in Rwakihirwa Village, Buranga Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county in Ndorwa West, the hub was established in March 2023 under the Presidential Initiative.

It aims to equip underprivileged individuals from Kabale, Kisoro, Kanungu, Rubanda, Rukiga, and Rukungiri districts—especially those without formal education—with skills to help them join the money economy. According to Emmanuel Mwebesa, the hub's zonal manager, beneficiaries are trained in various vocational skills, including shoemaking, carpentry, tailoring, knitting and weaving, baking, masonry, and bricklaying.

Additionally, the hub teaches the implementation of the Four-Acre Model. However, Mwebesa noted that many applicants have been left out due to a lack of accommodation space, as the facility can only host 236 beneficiaries. In Kabale Municipality, Museveni commissioned three roads: the 0.76-kilometer Bwankosa Road, the 0.34-kilometer Bushekwire Road, and a 2.47-kilometer road connecting the Kabale Diocesan Headquarters to the Katuna-Kabale-Mbarara Highway.

The roads were constructed by Multiplex Construction Company Limited at a cost of Shillings 21.7 billion. The project, which started in May 2021, was initially expected to be completed by May 2022 but faced delays, causing frustration among residents and local leaders. During the commissioning, Museveni directed the addition of more courses, including electrical engineering, at the Kigezi Zonal Industrial Hub.

He also urged the public to actively participate in government poverty eradication programs. After the event, Museveni visited the family of the late Apollo Nyagamehe, a prominent businessman who died in a road accident in July 2023. The president is in the Kigezi sub-region to assess the progress of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.
